The BodyWorks Back Program
Manual therapy techniques to help you return to your prior level of function.

  • Body Mechanics and Postural Education

Practicing proper postures and positioning at rest and with activities is very important when it come to the health of your back. Poor pelvic and lumbar posture is a common culprit for initiation of low back pain. Additionally pregnancy is a frequent cause of low back pain secondary to changes caused by the added weight of the baby. This alters the position of the pelvis and low back often causing pain.

We educate our patients on proper resting positions and proper body mechanics with simulated Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) in order to prevent injury due to excessive stresses on the back.
  • Core Stabilization Exercises

We educate patients on how to obtain optimal core (trunk) strength for function. As the trunk is the "core" of your body it is important for these muscles to be strong and stable. As we practice a variety of exercises aimed at abdominal strength.

  • Range of Motion and Stretching

With postural changes in the pelvis and lumber areas comes a muscle imbalance. It is important to have the proper balance of length and strength at your core to prevent injury and support proper body mechanics.

  • Functional Exercises

Functional strengthening consists of exercises to help re-train you for Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) in a safe and comfortable manner.

Some examples are: practicing positional transfers (in and out of bed/chairs etc), simulated dressing and bathing activities, body mechanics, and balance exercises.
